Mycorrhizae: the Microorganisms that enhance plants
Mycorrhizae occur in nature and are the result of a symbiotic association that is established between the roots of plants and some species of fungi. More and more studies confirm the countless benefits for both organisms involved, thanks to the exchange of nutrients. The mycorrhized plants, in fact, expand their root system and can more easily absorb the nutrients of the soil (mineral elements and water). The roots, on the other hand, supply the symbiotic fungi with important substances, such as sugars, proteins, and vitamins.
The importance of mycorrhizae is not limited to the absorption of water and nutrients from the soil. Mycorrhized plants are often more competitive and more tolerant of environmental stress than non-mycorrhized plants, thanks to several advantages.
Ability to absorb nutritional elements
Acquisition of nutrients present in forms not normally available to plants (for example N in organic compounds, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and microelements such as copper, zinc and iron.). In fact, a well-developed root system can better absorb nutritional elements. This allows to use less fertilizers and to make our plants thrive even in poor soils.
Resistance to drought
Protection from water stress. The increase in the root system allows the plants to better resist drought. Healthier and more branched roots are able to intercept water better. This occurs due to a higher contact surface of the hypha-root system with the soil particles.
Resistance to fungal diseases and nematodes
Plants have a better natural tolerance to fungal diseases. Mycorrhizae create a sort of barrier, which protects plants from “harmful” fungi. Mycorrhized soils are less subject to the presence of nematodes.
The increased resistance of plants to diseases is due to several factors:
• greater vigour of the root system;
• competition of mycorrhizae with the pathogen for space and nutrients;
• improvement of the microbiological composition of the rhizosphere with the increased presence of useful microorganisms;
• activation of the plant's natural defences.
The application of mycorrhizal fungi is recommended for every transplant, sowing and new planting.
Products based on mycorrhizae have zero residue and environmental impact.
ACTIVE ROOT by Icas srl is suitable for use on all plants and for all crops: in greenhouses, in open fields, in pots, for vegetables, flowers, vineyards, olive groves, citrus fruits, other fruit trees, forage, nursery, forestry, garden plants, indoor plants, green lawns, golf lawns, etc.
Liquid formulation, it can be applied in any phenological stage of the crop. It is used in fertigation, every 5-15 days, repeating it as needed.
Allowed in Organic Agriculture.
It prevents the conditions of stress and stunted development, typical of tired and exploited soils. It contributes to a strong and healthy growth of plants, subtracting food and living space to numerous pathogenic fungi responsible for the main fungal plant diseases such as: Peronospora spp. - Botritys spp. - Pythium spp. - Phytophthora spp. etc.
